This tour features a visit to the Museum of Appalachia.

This is a living history museum – a pioneer mountain farm – village that lends voice to the people of Southern Appalachia through the artifacts and stories they left behind.

When we left there last year people were wondering why we did not stay longer.

Each visitor is provided with a map of the village to explain what they will see in each building or area.

Lunch is included here today, before we begin our touring.

We will overnight in Knoxville this evening.

On day two, we will take the short drive to Petros, Tennessee.

Last year our guests thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour of Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary in Petros.

Like Alcatraz, this prison has been reinvented as a tourist attraction. The people who have told me about it were very enthusiastic and pleased with this guided tour led by either an ex-inmate or former prison guard.

This tour offers a fascinating look at daily life in a maximum-security facility.

There is a very good restaurant on the premises for lunch today, before we board the coach and return home.
